Support SaveLACougars.org with a 6 bottle special of 2016 Ghost Cat from now through Thursday, October 22nd!
The 2016 Ghost Cat is a blend of 66% Syrah, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc. While Syrah represents the varietal with the highest percentage of the blend, the remaining 34% is all Bordelaise, leaning the wine to that style. This is a single vineyard wine from the Smith Family Vineyard in Antelope Valley. Each varietal was vinified and aged separately, then blended several months ahead of bottling. The wines were pressed into neutral oak barrels after fermentation, then was racked off the lees into a selection of new oak barrels the following spring. The wine spent a total 32 months in French oak, 85% new. 110 cases produced.
Candied walnuts, cherry cola, and liquorish dominate the nose, supported by cedar, worn leather, and sagebrush. The sip delivers fresh black raspberries and more dark cherries, with waves of bright acidity that follow the fruit, and linger on the nuanced finish.
Portions of the proceeds from this wine will be donated to SaveLACougars.org, to help fund the planned wildlife bridge over the 101 freeway. For more information on this cause, or to donate, click HERE
