2019 Evident
Syrah / Petite Sirah
90 points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine
Description
At 75% Syrah and 25% Petite Sirah, the Evident’s name comes from the first blend of Syrah and Petite Sirah that we released after working with both varietals independently for over 5 years. We found ourselves pondering how it came to pass that we went that long without merging two wines who’s compatibility is so unmistakably evident. The fruit was all harvested by hand, and cold soaked for 48 hours, before fermentation. The wine was aged in 60% new French oak barrels for 22 months.
Tasting Notes
Red berries, blackberries, bramble and Christmas cakes abound on the nose, with interwoven hints of spice, and tobacco leaf. The sip bring an expanding pallet of concentrated fruit, with a firm backbone of ripe tannin and penetrating acidity. Bing cherries and sweet tobacco carry the brilliant finish.
Vineyard Designation
Lobo Canyon, Briarwood
Vineyard Notes
Evident feature Syrah from our Lobo Canyon Vineyard in the Malibu Coast AVA. A steep, rocky hillside of calcareous soil provides ideal conditions for Syrah to struggle, offering concentrated, yet elegant, and complex wines. The Petite Sirah comes from the Briarwood Vineyard on the west side of Paso Robles, and brings additional weight, and fullness to the wine.
