Malbec / Petite Sirah
Los Angeles County
Pragmatic is one of our most unique wines. A blend of Malbec and Petite Sirah, it highlights the unique terroir of L.A.'s high desert, and is a laser focused expression of the varietal’s fruit character. The fruit was all hand-picked, cold soaked for 24 hours after crush, then fermented in an open top bin. The wine spent 22 months in 2nd fill barrels, allowing the intense fruit to shine through, before blending with 20% Petite Sirah, which adds tannin and structure.
Candied sugar plums and violets lead the charge on the assertive nose, with hints tea and earth. The palate delivers juicy red plums and black raspberries, with blueberry, making it soft and inviting. Subtle notes of vanilla spice and holiday fruitcake ride out the finish.
The Los Angeles Malbec that is the star of Pragmatic comes from the Smith Family Vineyard on the north end of the Antelope Valley in an area known as Antelope Acres. The arid climate and sandy soils make the perfect conditions for growing this expressive, fruit forward, Bordeaux varietal.
